INTERESTING STORY ABOUT THIS SISTER:

She and her family lived in Saskatchewan 40 years ago. They were recent converts when Lanny's Grandfather and Grandmother, Almon & Ione Owens, served a mission in their area.  Elder and Sister Owens friendshipped this family and later took them to the temple in Cardston to be sealed. Her son recognized Elder Owens' name tag when we were at the temple. Sis. Yanni invited us to her home in Raymond, fed us homemade Russian food, and told us of her love of Grandad and Grandma Owens. This is a sweet memory we will take home with us!!

ONE OF ELDER OWENS' TALENTS:
HAIRCUTS FOR THE MISSIONARIES ~ and he's good at it!!

SEEKING, LOOKING, PRAYING

Meet our daughter, Christy and husband Chris.  They have been married for almost 7 years.

Aren't they so cute? (credit goes to Nicole Mason for these wonderful pictures - she's definitely a pro!!). Chris and Christy are certified to adopt and areSEEKING that special baby to bring into their loving home.

Don't they look like they would be fun, loving parents?  We think so too!!!
They are so prepared and have strong testimonies. A child would be blessed to be part of this sweet family.

So, spread the word!!!
They are looking, LOOKING for that special birth mother who would share her gift of life with them.
And we are all praying,  PRAYing,  PRAYING that it happens SOON!!

GREATINGS from ((COLD)) CANADA

Elder Owens did a lot of snow shoveling to try and keep ahead -  BUT  the snow always won!!

Snow can be beautiful and we manage to keep warm and still work - remember: it is run to the car, hurry into the building, take the coats, gloves, scarves and boots off.  Enjoy the meetings, then repeat.  After all, we are from Arizona and this is quite an adventure!

And we enjoy the 'wildlife' around town!! Elder Owens did get stuck in a snow drift trying to run down chase a cat - hahaha

This is the result of the Elders showing their love and appreciation for Elder Owens (they wouldn't tease him, if they didn't like him, eh?)

The mission President and his wife loaded their car (Santa's sleigh) with all the mail and Christmas packages for the mission and spent many hours on the road delivering.  We met them in the parking lot of the Stake Center and loaded our van with the Lethbridge Zone's goodies and....

made lots of elders and sisters happy Christmas Eve day!!!

Christmas Eve dinner with our YSA Elders and a young man from the ward.
Christmas dinner with a wonderful Dutch family - YSA son who has been reactivated.
This was a 5 course gormet tmeal cooked by Dad (Bro. Joosten).  We ate and socialized for 3 hours!! It was a wonderful ending to a beautiful 'White Christmas'

OUR PAST 3 MONTHS HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH:

Spiritual highs - Mission tour with visitng Seventy: Elder Zivic and his wife (center).

Baptisms - Elder Owens was asked to baptize a Young Single Adult named, Gino.

Lessons - Elder Owens 'burning' a hole in Elder Porter's shirt (Lesson on Repentance)

Full-time Elders and Sisters - this was a picture of the zone the day before transfers.
How we love working, helping, and teaching with these 'Angels in Mortal Clothing'

YES, it can get pretty cold (-22 C), but our hearts and souls are warm in our testimony  of Jesus Christ and the joy His plan of Happiness brings to those we teach!!
~HAPPY NEW YEAR~
May this coming year bring blessings and love.

SERVICE MAKES THE WORLD GO 'ROUND

Elder Owens continues to make breakfast visits at least twice around during the 6 week transfer.  He goes to each of the elders apartments. (When it's the Sisters - Sis. Owens goes too)

Elder Lewis enjoyed the pancakes
Elder Greenwell - below

We went thru 50 pounds of pancake flour from Idaho!!

Elder Mott - one hungry Elder

Elder Flygar wanted French toast

Elder D'Apuzzo - from Italy
Sisters Mortimer, Owens, Tomlinson

Elder Owens learned he had a hidden talent - Barbershopping  cutting hair.

Elder Davis, one of the Zone Leaders
Elder Estupinan (below)

These elders needed to get 'trimmed up' for interviews with the Mission President!!
As it turns out, he did this a million years ago when he was in the army
Hey, how wrong can you go with a buzz cut??

We also have enjoyed serving the old (we don't like that word) fun people at an assisted living center near our home.  The ladies and gents like to listen to music and some can't resist actually dancing!!

How much fun should senior missionaries have???  Come on a mission and find out!
Sometimes we even get invited to dinner:
One of the YSA (young single adults) Bishops' home
AND.....the elders treat us really well:
yes...they are mowing our yard in their GOOD clothes!!
Elder D'Apuzzo

sorry mom - Elder Crowther

On a side note:
being from Arizona,
we don't get to see much
of this at home....

....at least not in the desert part of AZ

Enjoy your fall - wherever you are!!!
~~We are enjoying Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada~~
